You may think that Comcast is just another cable company. You might be surprised to learn that the company is building products and technologies that will have an incredible impact on the future of the Internet, entertainment and home automation. We’re not your grandfather’s cable company, although we were a start-up when the industry began over 50 years ago.
That start-up spirit carries on today at Comcast’s Silicon Valley Innovation Center in Sunnyvale, California, where new products are being designed and developed every day. The Center was on a 2014 list as one of the 19 Coolest Places to Work in Silicon Valley and is currently home to hundreds of technologists, designers, researchers, and software engineers. Since opening its doors in 2013, hundreds of products have been trialed, failed or launched.
Products like SEEiT, a web app that helps users to discover, remember and watch TV shows and movies on any device; the game enhancing Xfinity Sports app; and personal and social media sharing to the X1 Entertainment Operating System have all been built in the Innovation Center. Comcast in Silicon Valley is also heavily involved in building the infrastructure for cloud deployment as well as building rules engines, third party adaptors, and developer profiles that allow device makers to know how to program their hardware to work with Comcast’s XFINITY Home and “Internet of Things” initiatives.
Adam Hertz, VP of Engineering, says, “We’ve got some of the best and brightest technologists building remarkable products in Comcast’s Silicon Valley Innovation Center. Everyday I’m blown away by how our teams are reshaping the way our customers experience media and technology in their homes and on the go. It’s really an exciting time to be working at Comcast in Silicon Valley.”
