The anticipation is building for the newest entry in Dick Wolf’s Chicago franchise – Chicago Justice. Fans have already watched the backdoor pilot and the crossovers. There is still quite a wait until the March 1, 2017 premiere, but we caught up with the show’s star, Carl Weathers. The veteran actor seemed as excited as the fans for his new show.
What made you sign on to this newest of the Chicago shows? It’s a Dick Wolf show, which means there’s some big chance for longevity.
Will the show deal with issues of race? Yes, we are interested in the conversation and in having the conversation. You’re going to see Phillip Winchester’s character and my character having the discussion.
You played Apollo Creed in Rocky, an iconic movie character. What does that mean all these years later? It means that I’ve been very fortunate. I’ve had the opportunity to do some movies and do some television that people remember will, that people liked, that people still like and still enjoy. I happened to be in the right place at the right time and be the right guy and be blessed, if you will, with a talent to be able to do those things.
Did you see Creed – and if so, what did you think? I enjoyed it. I thought Michael B did a great job. I thought it was really well executed. I liked a lot of things about that movie.
Will this role prevent you from doing more Arrested Development in the future? I doubt if it’ll prevent me. It’s all up to Mitch Hurwitz. I don’t know where (or if) he is in the process of doing more.
