There are two ways to look at this week’s XFINITY On Demand Top 20. There is the prism of what’s new. There, the two-hour premiere of NBC’s new fantasy drama, Emerald City, which Indiewire’s TV critic found full of “delightful weirdness,” sparkled as the #1 most-watched new TV episode on XFINITY On Demand the week of Jan. 2 – 8.
Then there are the series that are like books on your nightable. Viewers tune in to them week after week, whether to keep up, catch-up, or binge. Indeed, Freeform took a page out of the binge-viewing playbook by making the entire first season, all 10 episodes, of their new series Beyond available, and their reward is the top spot among all TV series viewed on XFINITY On Demand the first week of 2017. Savvy move.
