Would you turn down assistance from a family member knowing full well you really could use it?

That’s the dilemma Maxine faced on the latest episode of “The Carmichael Show” when her wealthy father comes to town to celebrate her graduation. Maxine’s father, Grant North, has “unreasonably high standards” and she worries whether he will like Jerrod and approve of her choices.

“He is impossible to please,” Maxine said about her father, who wants her to accept a psychologist position at a prestigious private school in Charlotte, NC.

But Maxine has ideas of her own. Even though Grant’s funded her education up until now, she’d rather work as a county social worker.

“That sounds like community service. Did you get a DUI? Why didn’t you call me? You know I can get those things erased,” Grant said, later telling her, “I didn’t pay for seven years of college for you to go into social work.”

I don’t know if Maxine’s a Taurus, but girlfriend didn’t budge, which didn’t go over well with Grant. The two ended up falling out.

Watch now to find out what he withholds from her and whether she’ll break down and beg to get it back.

Enjoy “The Carmichael Show”? Well, you’ll be able to continue tuning in for the shenanigans of Jerrod Carmichael and his family because NBC renewed this sitcom for a third season. Good for them! Catch up on past episodes here and check out the sit-down I had with Carmichael earlier this year here.
