The extended and final deadline is coming up for this year’s Interpretations Short Film Initiative, sponsored by Comcast and NBCUniversal. You have until this Friday, July 15 to submit your short film entry to ensure that it can go through the judging and screening processes by a panel of industry professionals, and if you make it to the Top 15, also the general public!
3 winners will be eventually chosen, where their films will be screened at the NBCUniversal Short Film Festival on October 19 at the prestigious Directors Guild of America Theater in West Hollywood, and a final winner will also be mentored by the likes of Hollywood director and YOMYOMF founder Justin Lin, along with other industry pros, on a digital project for Comcast!
So far, the short film entries have been trickling in and there are some really good ones! You can view them now over at the Interpretations website.
Interpretations-ScriptNow you may think that there’s not enough time to produce a film and submit it by the July 15 deadline. Don’t fret, just do it! If 48-hour short film shoot outs exist, then it can be done! Plus, the script is only 4 lines and already pre-determined, written by award winning playwright David Henry Hwang! It’s up to you to “interpret” how to use those lines to craft your own unique story!
So, why are we holding this contest? Well, we have ulterior motives, mainly to nurture an emerging Asian American filmmaking community, to promote diversity in Hollywood, and to provide substantive opportunities for creative content artists where opportunities are few and far between.
Head over to the Interpretations website to get the fine print. So, what are you waiting for? Gather your team, unite your filmmaking friends, and go out and make an Interpretations film!
