Last Week: There were eight players left and Julie thought targeting Rick was right. But, the anchor’s arm went up, so the Wardog was put down.

39 Days, 18 People, 1 “Survivor” Blog

Let’s take a look at the tribe as it currently stands…

The Vata Tribe (wearing red)
Aurora, 32 – Divorce Lawyer
Gavin, 23 – YMCA Program Director
Julie, 46 – Toymaker
Lauren, 21 – Student
Rick, 33 – Morning News Anchor
Ron, 46 – Teacher
Victoria, 23 – Waitress

Post Tribal Shenanigans

We kick things off at Vata beach where Devens is annoyed because trusting Ron has steered him in the wrong direction once again. Ron tries to make amends by giving him his long-expired advantage menu.

Oh man, Ron’s like the uncle that grabs a deck of cards and asks if you want to play “52 Pick-up.”

The Loved-Ones Visit

Alright, what’s the over/under on which loved one will make me tear up? Let’s put it at 3.5.

First up we get to meet Rick’s wife Becca. They hug it out and are super cute together.

Julie’s husband is out second. They have a sweet, tearful reunion where she asks if he’s OK. Love it.

Next up is Lauren’s father and she absolutely wraps herself around him. OK, it’s getting a little dusty in here.

Ron’s husband is batting clean-up. Ron immediately asks how his parents are, and he’s assured that they’re alright.

From there we get to meet Victoria’s father. He breaks down and for some reason that’s the one that sends me over the edge. So, for those of you scoring at home, it was the fifth family member.

Aurora’s brother makes an appearance and they share a giant hug.

And finally, we learn that Gavin had to move up his wedding in order to be on the show. So, he was only married for two days before going on the show.

OK, I’m a wreck.

The newlyweds embrace and they’re even wearing matching yellow shirts!

I usually don’t rate loved ones, but I’m giving all seven of these folks a 12 out of 10.

Quick Aside: Probst does this thing where he orders them to have one last hug so they can move on. Very aggressive.

Reward Challenge Time: The players will run to the ocean to retrieve water in a bucket. They’ll then toss that water to their loved one. The first loved one to fill their bucket will win a picnic lunch with their respective Survivor, and probably a few other Survivors.

Um…if this challenge looks familiar, you might remember this…

Result: Ron and his husband pulled off the win. This whole thing was very entertaining, with nobody having a Colby-esque meltdown. In fact, Team Devens was so bad at this challenge that they decided just to relax and chat. Adorbs.

Ron is allowed to take two people and their loved ones along with him. He chooses Julie and Gavin.

At Vata Beach

During the reward, Ron seems to be confessing all of his in-game sins to his husband. But, his husband assures him that it’s all part of the show. It probably helps to hear that.

Ron also confesses that he didn’t pick Gavin so he could have time with his new bride, but because he needs him on his side.

While they’re eating, the trio comes to the consensus that Rick is the next to go. Also, duh.

Back at camp, Aurora goes digging through Rick’s bag to see if he has an idol. She finds the package from his previous idol, but she doesn’t find Ron’s menu.

Rick catches Aurora, but she isn’t ashamed of it at all. He tries to use this as a way to turn people against her, but he doesn’t seem to be having much success.

However, he does have success later on while idol hunting. He discovers a clue that tells him there is an idol in a tree above the tribe’s shelter. That night, he shimmies up the tree and claims it.

La Cheeserie!

Immunity Challenge: The players will stand between two boards with their feet on tiny pegs. The last person standing wins immunity.

Result: Devens was the first person out, which seemed to lead to others being fine dropping out. Eventually Gavin picked up the win.

Pre-Tribal Politicking

Ron and Laura try to convince Rick to vote for Aurora when he plays his expired advantage. Their reasoning behind this is in case Rick has a real idol to play. You know, separate from his fake idol.

Victoria and Lauren have other plans though. They talk with Aurora about a plan to vote for Ron so that Rick’s vote doesn’t decide who goes home if he plays an idol.

To add to this mess, Aurora admits that she has an extra vote and decides to give it to Gavin, the only player who can’t be voted for, in case he needs to use it as a tie-breaker to save her.

Getting all this?

Tribal Time

Rick immediately throws Aurora under the bus by telling everyone that she was going through his bag. Once again she doesn’t deny it.

Also, Lauren thinks Ron’s loved-ones visit choice were very telling.

Voting Time: Ron votes for Rick, Rick votes for Aurora, and Lauren votes for Ron. The rest are sooper secret.

JPro tallies and returns. He asks if anyone wants to play an idol and…Rick does!

Rick tries to play Ron’s advantage menu, and then does a masterful job of making Ron and Julie look like crap in front of the jurors when he learns that it’s fake.

“I was already going home, did you just want to make me look stupid?! So my kids think I’m an idiot?!”

Seriously, this was a five-star performance.

However, he gets the upper-hand by playing his real idol.

Alright, we’ve got four votes for Rick, one vote for Aurora, two votes for Ron, and the thirteenth person voted out of “Survivor: Edge of Extinction” and the forty first member of the jury is…Ron.

Hmm…eight votes. So, it looks like Gavin voted for Ron twice and Lauren voted for him once.

Verdict: Lauren and Victoria making a thing happen! Now it finally feels like everyone is out there swinging for the fences.

Although, the ninety member jury is a bit much. And, the idea of Joe or whoever swooping in to make a run at this doesn’t appeal to me.

Victoria and Lauren: Wow…look who hopped into the pilot seat. Well done.
Gavin: You voted with the right side and Aurora trusted you enough to use her advantage. However, I’m not sure which duo you can beat at the end.
Aurora: You saved your skin again, but I’m getting the feeling that nobody is concerned about facing you in front of the jury.
Rick: Watching you is a blast. But you’re gonna need idols or immunity wins to stay alive. It’s a tough place to be.
Julie: Rick made you guys look really bad in front of the jury. That’s going to be a tough one to come back from.

Power Ranking Results: Gabby Pascuzzi had Ron in spot five, while I had him in spot four. So, the current score is Team Gabby 93, Team Gordon 95.
