Post-Tribal Shenanigans

Things are relatively low-key after Tribal, with Karishma playing it cool despite receiving the split votes. However, she is rightfully worried that she’s going to be an easy next target.

Aaron, who is now oddly in a power position within the tribe after his disastrous premiere, thinks that it might be a better idea to split up Dean and Chelsea.

Wait? Dean and Chelsea?

CUT TO: Dean and Chelsea spooning in the shelter.

Quick Aside: For all the grief I’m giving them this season about “Boston” Rob and Sandra’s “Survivor” lessons, the best advice I’ve ever heard about this game was “Boston” Rob saying to pay attention to who people sleep with. It’s a great indicator of who’s working together. Those are the kinds of tips they should be giving!

Sure enough, the duo claims that they aren’t a showmance, but they’re flirting pretty heavily. This puts them on Missy and Aaron’s radar.

Another Quick Aside: Is there anyone Missy isn’t working with? She’s a rockstar.

Idol Threat

Over at Vokai, Jamal manages to find some alone time…also…he finds an idol. And he didn’t even have to beat Sandra at rock, paper, scissors to get it!

Speaking of idols and islands that contain them…the Island of the Idols boat shows up with an offer; Vokai can choose to send someone if they can make a unanimous decision or they can pick a name from a bag.

Dan asks if anyone actually wants to go and everybody decides against it because they don’t want to put a big target on their back.

Well, actually…one person is foolish enough to volunteer to go.

CUT TO: Noura on the boat speeding off to the Island of the Idols.

Once she gets there, Rob and Sandra give her a lesson on how to win friends and influence people. They also give her watermelon. Is this some kind of a “Big Brother” tie in?

Island of the Idols Challenge: The next immunity challenge will be the standard “Survivor” blindfold competition. If she can convince her tribe to let her be the caller, she will earn the ability to negate someone’s vote. If she can’t, she’ll lose her vote for the next Tribal.

Noura doesn’t think about it, she doesn’t negotiate, she just immediately accepts. Rob and Sandra even encourage her to relax and think about it, but nope…she’s in. Sandra rightly points out that that kind of attitude is going to get her in trouble.

Yet Another Quick Aside: During all of this, they showed an awesome montage of persuasion from “Heroes vs. Villains,” “Cook Islands,” “All-Stars,” and the first “Fans vs. Favorites.” Man, I love me some Yul.

A Bad Call?

So, Noura gets back to camp and tells everyone that she can tell them about the next challenge if they unanimously agree to give her a specific role. I like where her head is at, but this is a confusing pitch .

After some bewildered looks, they finally agree to do whatever she wants.

Noura explains that some blindfolds are in their future, and they immediately balk at the idea of her being the caller. It’s almost like they’re worried that she isn’t a good communicator.

Kellee, who was very worried about Noura coming back and spilling the beans about what’s actually at the Island of the Idols, thinks that Noura has dug herself too deep of a hole to change gears and break the news about Rob and Sandra.

They decide to practice with Noura as the caller and it does…not…go…well.

All of this is hilarious.

Immunity Challenge Time: One member of the tribe will stand on a platform and call out directions to their blindfolded teammates as they retrieve three keys. Once all three keys are returned, the caller will have to lead one blindfolded tribemate through a puzzle. The first tribe to complete their puzzle wins immunity.

Sitting Out: Noura.

This was very weird. Lauren straight up says Noura is sitting out. And it didn’t seem like it had been discussed beforehand, because Noura was shocked. Ouch…that was cold.

Callers: Jason and Elizabeth

Result: Vokai jumped out to a huge lead. Lairo made a comeback, but Vokai was able to pull off the win. Kudos to Jason for keeping a very cool head.

Pre-Tribal Politicking

It starts off with the majority targeting Karishma…but Aaron and Missy are also considering getting rid to Dean due to his blossoming showmance. Their plan is to pull the trigger on him without telling Tom or Chelsea.

Elizabeth and Elaine aren’t in love with all of this Dean talk because they don’t think that Karishma is contributing around camp. This also raises some flags because Dean and Aaron are supposed to be close.

Then, after realizing that this plan isn’t getting the traction it needs, Missy decides to switch the target to Chelsea. This blows Elizabeth and Elaine’s minds because of how quickly Missy changed directions

Tribal Time

There aren’t a lot of concrete sentiments shared here, with the exception of Missy telling Karishma that she needs to step up.

Oh, and Karishma made a “Chaos is a ladder” reference. Respect.

Voting Time: No votes are shown.

JPro tallies and returns. He asks if anyone wants to play an idol and…nobody does. We’ve got two votes for Karishma, four votes for Chelsea, and the fourth person voted out of “Survivor: Island of the Idols” is…Chelsea.

Verdict:  Wow, this season is blindside central. I’m loving the in-game stuff, it’s the Island of the Island time that feels kind of superfluous. Maybe if the person could discuss problems they’re having around camp? I dunno, it’s just not clicking for me yet.

  • Aaron: Color me impressed. He went from being the odd vote out to making big calls. Well done, sir.
  • Lauren: Kicking Noura out of the caller position, if that’s what happened, is a bold move. It makes a statement that you have your team’s back. I’d hate for it to come back and bite you, but it’s clear you’re in a position of power.
  • Missy: She’s making big moves, she’s talking to everybody, and she probably has Karishma locked down. But…she really outted herself as a big-time player.
  • Jason: Great job in a spotlight position. You kept a level head and maybe bought Noura some time.
  • Jamal: Way to get that idol, I just wish you were making more social connections.
  • Elizabeth and Elaine: You guys were eventually on board with the Chelsea move, but I doubt you were excited about it. But, you’re headed into a swap and you haven’t ruffled (or rustled) and feathers.
  • Karishma: You need something. Some confidence, a win, an expanded role…anything. Otherwise, you’re just Missy’s extra vote.
  • Noura: Seeing your tribe shoot you down as the caller after they had agreed to let you do it was cold-blooded. They don’t care about you or your feelings. Nobody needs this swap more that you do.
  • Dean: Cheslea’s gone and Aaron does not have your back.
  • Dan, Janet, Jack, Tom, Kellee, and Tommy : I can’t give you full credit if you don’t show your work.

Power Rankings Results: Reem Daly and Aubry Bracco had Chelsea in spot eleven, while I had her in spot nine. So, the current score is Team EOE: 32, Team Holmes 39.
