Last Week: The tribes were split in three, the whole episode was Extinction free, and Boston lost more than a QB…

39 Days, 20 People, 1 “Survivor Blog

Alright, let’s take a look at the tribes as they currently stand.

The Dakal Tribe (wearing orange)

  • Denise, 48 – “Philippines”
  • Jeremy, 41 – “Second Chance”
  • Kim, 36 – “One World”
  • Sandra, 44 – “Pearl Islands” and “Heroes vs. Villains”
  • Tony, 45 – “Cagayan”

The Sele Tribe (wearing blue)

  • Michele, 29 – “Kaôh Rōng”
  • Nick, 28 – “David vs. Goliath”
  • Parvati, 36 – “Fans vs. Favorites”
  • Wendell, 35 – “Ghost Island”
  • Yul, 44 – “Cook Islands”

The Yara Tribe (wearing green)

  • Adam, 28 – “Millennials vs. Gen-X”
  • Ben, 36 – “Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers”
  • Sarah, 34 – “Game Changers”
  • Sophie, 29 – “South Pacific”

Quick Aside: I hope everyone’s being smart and safe. Thanks for joining me tonight!

Life After the Rob

The Yara tribe is ecstatic now that Rob’s quarantine has been lifted. Well, Adam’s not so thrilled. Looking around he realizes that Sarah and Sophie are getting very close to Ben. Yeah, Adam might not have thought that one through completely.

Drawing Rocks

A clue arrives at the Edge of Extinction on a log. Now which prankster in production decided to use a log? We almost lost Ethan, you monsters!

Anywho, the clue describes turning over rocks and being in the right place at the right time. Tyson smartly figures out that it must have something to do with the tide. He waits in the correct spot and is able to find the advantage which is an idol nullifier. He sends it to Parvati in exchange for one of her fire tokens.

Now, here’s where it gets interesting. Instead of holding onto the token to save up for an idol or a challenge advantage, he buys peanut butter so he can be better nourished to win the challenge. Also, hiding food is very on-brand for Tyson.

Immunity Challenge Time: The tribes will swim to a boat and retrieve bags of rice. They’ll then push the bags of rice through a small hole in a wall. They’ll open up the bags with a dagger to retrieve  three balls. The first tribe to get the balls through a labyrinth maze will win immunity and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. The other two tribes will go to Tribal Council.

Sitting Out: Sandra (duh…) and Michele

Result: Yara was able to pull off the win. Adam rightly pointed out that this was like winning two immunity challenges.

Quick Aside: Why is Adam getting the “fool” edit? First with his torch missing the hole, then last week with him messing with the urn. Give him a break.

Pre-Tribal Policking – Yara

The early plan is for Yul and the Gang® to vote for Parvati and hope she doesn’t have an idol. Nick agrees with this, but he isn’t happy about voting out his “Survivor” crush. I wouldn’t be thrilled about voting Chelsea Meissner either.

Michele, realizing that there’s no hope of splitting the guys up, decides to figure out what her best-case scenario is. So, she tells Wendell she’s going to vote for him in the hopes that Parvati will appreciate her loyalty and give her her remaining fire tokens.

Later on, Wendell weirdly tells Parvati he’ll vote for anyone she wants if she gives him two fire tokens. This is very odd. It’s got to be a lie just to get her tokens.

Sure enough, Parvati doesn’t buy it. However, she uses Wendell’s proposal to try to get Nick to flip…and it…kinda…seems like Nick is entertaining the idea. Maybe?

Pre-Tribal Policking – Dakal

You know how I’m worried that Tony is going to go full Tony? Welp…welcome to full Tony.

Instead of hanging out around camp or talking strategy, he hides out in his Spy Shack 2.0 hoping to get some information. All…day…

And people notice that he isn’t around.

While he’s away, it looks like it’s going to come down to Jeremy or Denise. Buuut…Sandra decides to have some fun with her soon-to-be-expiring idol. She offers it to Denise in exchange for her two fire tokens. The plan is that they’ll all vote for Denise, and then Denise can idol out Tony or Jeremy. Sandra doesn’t care which one.

Denise thinks about it, then says she’ll give Sandra one token now and one token when they get back to camp. Sandra agrees to this plan. Sandra also tells Denise that she can’t tell anyone where the idol came from.

Huh…so Sandra feels safe enough that she’s willing to risk that expiring idol for fire tokens. Interesting…

Tribal Time

Things kick off with Wendell saying he’s willing to stab anyone in the back. Maybe not the best thing to remind your alliance right before a vote.

Then, he once again offers to sell his vote to Parvati for two fire tokens. This whole exchange doesn’t feel right. I’m assuming he had buy-in from Yul and Nick to make this play. Otherwise it makes him look super untrustworthy.

They can’t get on the same page, so no fire tokens are exchanged.

Voting Time: No votes were shown. Just commercials.

JPro tallies and returns. He asks if anyone wants to play an idol and…nobody does. Alright, we’ve got one vote for Parvati, two votes for Wendell, one vote for Parvati, and the seventh person voted out of “Survivor: Winners at War” is…Parvati.

Fire Token Bequeath’n: Parvati leaves three tokens to Michele. That’d buy so much peanut butter!

Tribal Time – Part Deux

There’s a lot of talk about threats vs. non-threats which is a weird narrative to me. Just because Tony’s popular and played a big game, does that make him a threat?

Other than that, Jeremy is pushing the fact that he can help in challenges while Denise seems to be saying that they can cement an alliance with her.

Voting Time: Sandra votes for Denise and says she’s certain Denise isn’t going home, the rest of the votes aren’t shown.

JPro tallies and returns. He asks if anyone wants to play an idol and…Denise does…TWICE! First she plays an idol for herself, then she plays an idol for Jeremy. Alright, we’ve got four votes for Denise that don’t count, and the eighth person voted out of “Survivor: Winners at War” is…Sandra.

Wow…Denise bounced Sandra from the game with her own idol.

Fire Token Bequeath’n: Sandra leaves her fire token to Yul. Huh, that’s surprising.

Fascinating Fact: That’s four Villains tribe members in a row. Boo…

And they went in the order they finished in that season!

Verdict: The players are really making the most of this fire token thing. I’m starting to like it too.

Now, if they could just make it so all of my favorites weren’t being sent out of the game.

But either way, this is all a very welcome diversion. Good job, everyone.

  • Denise – Wow, the queen is dead…long live the queen. I hope that second idol trick was enough to solidify an alliance with Jeremy.
  • Jeremy – At the end of the day, it wasn’t you. So whatever you were doing out there with classic Dakal worked.
  • Nick – For as much as I love Parvati, I think you made  the right move. Going to the end with a shady-seeming Wendell is much better than with a Parvati who had to overcome every obstacle.
  • Wendell – I feel like we didn’t see everything that went down in your offer to work with Parvati. I’m assuming you had buy-in from your buddies.
  • Michele – Nobody needs a merge more than you do. But, you’re still in there swinging.
  • Tony – We all love the spy shack, buddy. But using it on the day of a big vote might not be the best move.
  • Sarah, Sophie, Adam, Ben, Kim, and Yul – I can’t grade you if you don’t show your work.
